My love for beauty and skincare started at a young age. I remember being intrigued by the latest copy of Allure or Seventeen to read about the most popular finds (and going through my grandma’s beauty cabinet was the second best thing, ha!). I reminisce the days where my ‘must-have’ skincare item was my Eucerin Daily Protection Lotion – because even back then, beauty magazines where telling readers to wear SPF daily.
As I was entering my teens, I started to experience chronic acne. It was a big deal to me, because I valued healthy skin so deeply. I was told it was a genetic thing by doctors, but I couldn’t trace anyone in my immediate family who had it. At one point, I was given a prescription for the birth control pill to fix my acne. I felt certain the pill could solve my acne woes…until it stopped working! I then scrambled to try multiple prescription creams in combo with antibiotics, and harsh skincare products with no success. One summer, I even had a round of traditional Chinese medicine with a practitioner in Shanghai where I was studying abroad, but I saw no results.
In my early-twenties, I wanted to move on from chronic acne badly, and so I caved to Accutane. One round left my skin in a very fragile state, but I felt I had no other option. My skin eventually went back to normal – but so did my acne. I was like, wow, I only got to enjoy one year of clear skin after buying into such an expensive (and risky) treatment. My frustration now motivated me more than ever. After Accutane, or the ‘drug of last resort’, even failed to work for me, I knew I just had do to something completely different. I turned to the holistic community and found natural ways of healing my skin from the inside out. It WORKED consistently, and changed my life.
My hope now is to inspire and help other women with what I’ve learned on my journey through this blog. I also want this blog to be a place where I can share my faith, passions and interests, along with my love for skincare. Feel free to drop me a note to say hello!
