6 Teas that Help Reduce Acne and How They Work

Acne is a tough skin condition to deal with, and I know how hard it can be. I’ve tried so many different things in an attempt to get my skin back under control. What if there was one thing that could help reduce acne? Well, there are actually many things – from the food we eat to the products we use in our daily routine – but one easy way is by drinking tea! These teas not only taste great but will help keep your skin clear in addition to all their anti-aging beauty benefits.

Matcha tea, Dandelion tea, Oolong tea, Rooibos tea, Chamomile tea and Stinging Nettle tea all work in different ways to fight inflammation and reduce pimples. Let’s take a closer look at each one of these teas so you can figure out which one will work best for your skin.

1. Matcha

Matcha is a type of high-quality green tea from Japan. It’s made from younger tea leaves that are shaded from the sun during their last few weeks of growth. It contains less caffeine than other teas (or coffee), so it’s a great option for those who need to limit their intake of stimulants in the evening hours when they’re trying to sleep – which can also reduce breakouts.

Matcha has powerful antioxidants that help balance the oil on your skin’s surface, which prevents it from turning bad and clogging your pores. The main antioxidant found in matcha tea is epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG for short. EGCG helps prevent acne from the inside out by decreasing insulin resistance, lowering the production of sebum oil, decreasing inflammation, and protecting the skin from UV damage and free-radicals.

It also has the amino acid L-theanine that calms your mind to keep you from feeling stressed out or anxious about breakouts.

2. Dandelion tea

Did you know that dandelion has been used medicinally for centuries? Native Americans used it to promote skin health and today’s naturopathic doctors recommend it too. It is believed to help the skin by improving liver function, which cleans your blood of toxins and improves circulation. Dandelion root also contains a ton of antioxidants, vitamins A-C, iron potassium zinc — all things that support clear and youthful skin!

Dandelion tea is made by steeping the dried leaves and roots in hot water. The taste of dandelion can be bitter, so it’s best to add a little honey or lemon juice for flavor if desired before drinking this herbal remedy as part your daily skin care regimen.

3. Oolong Tea

In simple terms, Oolong tea is a traditional Chinese tea prepared from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which is the same plant used to prepare green and black teas. It is commonly consumed in China and Taiwan.

Oolong tea is rich in antioxidants. It contains various minerals like calcium, manganese, copper, carotene, selenium, potassium and vitamins A, B, C, E and K. In addition to these, it contains folic acid, niacin amide and other detoxifying alkaloids. Due to its semi-fermented nature, oolong tea contains numerous polyphenolic compounds which provide additional skin and anti-aging benefits.

This herbal remedy can be used to reduce inflammation on the face or body due its anti-inflammatory properties that help fight acne breakouts!

4. Rooibos Tea

I was just reading about this new tea called Rooibos. Rooibos tea has been used for centuries to treat all sorts of ailments, and now it has been shown that this ancient tea can help reduce acne! With high levels of antioxidants and enzymes such as nothofagin (a powerful anti-inflammatory), aspalathin (fights bacteria), and superoxide dismutase (helps prevent cell degeneration) present in this tea drink – you won’t be able to live without drinking this for too long…

Rooibos is a relatively new tea in the U.S. market compared against other types of teas, but has quickly become quite popular among those looking for an alternative for their daily caffeine fix.

5. Chamomile Tea

Drinking Chamomile tea is another great way to reduce acne because it has anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps with digestion and can help you sleep better at night, which will result in less stress on your body.

Chamomile has a calming and soothing effect on the skin, which is why it’s so popular in topical skincare products. There have even been some clinical trials that show how chamomile can penetrate deep into your skin to reach those deeper layers for more serious issues like acne lesions.

Powdered Chamomile tea leaves can also be used to reduce the visibility of hyperpigmentation marks left by acne. Cold chamomile tea bags can be pressed on pimples to reduce the swelling and redness.

6. Stinging Nettle Tea

This tea is not only a delicious beverage, but it also has many health benefits! It is rich in B vitamins that can help give you clearer skin and improve the blood flow in your veins. This tea has vitamin K, which boosts collagen production and keeps wrinkles at bay. Plus, it has zinc and selenium, which are minerals that fight inflammation and free radicals.

Not many plants can beat the inflammation-fighting properties of nettle root. It’s also been shown in a clinical study to moderately balance hormonal levels in women, thereby helping skin that is acne prone.
